Route 17 Reopens Shortly Before Dawn

Route 17 in Saddle River finally reopened around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, more than 14 hours after utility lines fell across the roadway, closing it.

A utility pole "just snapped on its own," a responder told Daily Voice -- beginning a rush-hour nightmare that became an hours-long annoyance.

Traffic choked roads in several towns while crews from Orange & Rockland and Verizon made repairs.

The pole "just snapped on its own," a responder said.
